Lee Gershuny, originally from New York City, was Founder/Artistic Director of the Edinburgh-based Elements World Theatre.
She died unexpectedly in July 2018.
Lee was a poet and award-winning playwright in both the UK and US. From 1992 onwards she wrote all the plays that Elements World Theatre produced.
She also developed and directed innovative collaborative forms of theatre (Jazz Theatre and Community Rites of Passage) with professional and "natural" performers of all ages and backgrounds nationally and internationally.
Elements Theatre's most recent production was Reflections of a Constant Monk, which premiered at Summerhall in Edinburgh in 2016 as part of the Luminate Festival of Creative Ageing.
Elements did a short tour in November, appearing in Pathhead, The Poetry Club, Glasgow, and at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh.
Lee was due to appear at Dove Tales event, Lament for Palestine, at the Scottish Poetry Library on 11th August.
We are so sorry she won't be there. It was entirely because of Lee's concern for what is happening in Gaza that we chose to focus on Palestine. She was the one who suggested it and we are profoundly sad that she won't be there.
